Alfama is one of Lisbon's oldest districts, known for its narrow streets, scenic viewpoints, and distinctive tradicional atmosphere. Its maze-like layout reflects centuries of history, preserving a unique character that sets it apart within the city.
Alfama is an authentic fishing neighborhood located between the Atantic Ocean and Lisbon's São Jorge Castle. It is where the best-known genre of Portuguese music, Fado was created.
It is possible to see roman imprints from the ruins of a Roman Theatre that is located inside the Cathedral on the Rua da Saudade.
For incredible views you can take the tram to the highest point of Alfama.
